About the Agam Museum Rishon Lezion
In 2018, the Agam Art Museum opened, dedicated to the work of Yaakov Agam and the Kinetic Art movement. The museum is a joint initiative of the Rishon Lezion Municipality and the artist Agam, a native of the city, known worldwide as the father of the Kinetic Movement.
The museum presents a retrospective exhibition of Agam's work spanning over seven decades, including works from international collections, previously exhibited in prestigious museums and collections, as well as new works from recent years.
Agam's art fascinates viewers of all ages, from curious toddlers to art curators and researchers from all over the world.
Agam uses a variety of media: shape-shifting sculpture and painting, polymorphic relief paintings, interactive digital works, objects and stabilizers.
Even today, Agam continues to innovate and create with the ambition to establish the only museum in the world dedicated to kinetic art, as a center for the artistic worldview that drives it and the visual education methodology.
The Agam Museum allows one to see "beyond the visible" and experience art that reflects a reality as "permanent movement," which cannot be represented as a single image, a reality whose only constant characteristic is "change."
Every visitor is invited to explore and interact with the works, which have many and changing dimensions, and to immerse themselves in what the artist calls - the fourth dimension - a dimension that contains time, movement, change and the unexpected.
The museum was designed by architect David Nofar and covers an area of approximately 3,200 square meters, dedicated to exhibitions in a complex, meditative and inspiring architectural space.
"Kadar Square and the Klila Columns"
Yaacov Agam Standing at the museum's entrance plaza, the foyer, and the main hall are the "Klila Columns" – an impressive installation named after the artist's late wife. The installation, which features 29 unique columns that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, was donated in loving memory of Amalia and Yosef Kadar by the Kadar Family and The Naomi Foundation. Visitors are invited to wander through this spectacular sculpted environment and experience a captivating visual symphony, where every step and viewpoint reveal new and ever-changing formal motifs..
In addition, a number of important works were donated by Eli and Anita Jacob in memory of Ezra and Lulu Selma, the late Eli Jacob's beloved parents (with the assistance of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation), including "Magic 1" 1977, "Magic Dream 2" 1997, "War and Peace" 1999, "Twins" 2005, "Desert and Blossom" 2010.
Along the building's interior balcony is "The Panorama" in all its colors, a 22-meter-long relief painting originally exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, in Agam's historic exhibition from 1980. Walking along the winding walls, visitors will discover a spectacular rainbow of colors that bursts out of whiteness and calm and then fades away.
The Experience Hall, the multi-stage media space located in the complex, hosts a variety of events – exhibitions, performances, lectures and performances that are in dialogue with the artist’s vision. In addition, the museum hosts conferences, seminars and tours, as well as activities and workshops for kinetic creation designed for all ages and in a variety of languages.
